Subscribing to the articles --------------------------- If you subscribe to new articles, I store your email address, the language you were browsing in when you subscribed, and the times you confirmed and unsubscribed — that much and nothing more. I use them solely to send you a note when I publish a new article. The subscription only becomes active once you confirm it from the email you receive (double opt-in), and every email carries an unsubscribe link. If you want your address removed from the list entirely, write to me through the [contact form](/en/contact). Anonymous visit statistics -------------------------- To know which articles help, I count on my own server how many visits each article gets and on which networks it is shared. I use no external analytics service and no tracking cookies. I do not store your IP address: it is turned into an anonymous fingerprint that changes every day, so today's visits cannot be linked to tomorrow's. That is all — nothing to sell, nothing to pass on. Clips from other platforms -------------------------- Some articles have a companion clip, posted on YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, Facebook or Vimeo and shown here through that platform's own player. When the player loads, that platform sees your IP address and may set its own cookies, under its policy, not mine. I send it nothing about you and receive nothing from it about who you are. Where a platform offers a quieter option, I use it: YouTube through `youtube-nocookie.com`, Vimeo with do-not-track on. The player only loads once you scroll near it, so an article you never read down to the clip sends no request at all. If you want zero contact with the platforms, don't scroll to the clip, or block them in your browser.
